A two-day peace-building conference targeting 250 youth within Wau town of Western Bahr el Ghazal State aimed at fostering social cohesion kicked off on Thursday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj during the opening of the conference, Western Bahr el Ghazal state director general in the ministry of peacebuilding, Angelina Anthony said the conference sponsored by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) encourages a peaceful environment among the young people.

“This is how they get training on leadership and also how to address people,” she said. “In this period especially since last year up to now, we are looking at the youth as the backbone of the state. In October, the youth were doing road maintenance within the town through Cash for Work run by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).”

She also appreciated the role played by the International Organization for Migration in supporting youth empowerment.

Mawien Bol, a state youth union representative, said the conference offers them a platform to identify challenges facing them.

“This gathering of today organized by IOM is very crucial to the youth of Western Bahr el Ghazal to discuss the grievances or challenges that are facing youth, it is very important for the youth to know themselves,” Bol said.
