South Sudan’s army chief of staff Paul Malong Awan is still “critically ill” at Nairobi Hospital in the Kenyan capital, an eyewitness said yesterday.

Gen. Malong was flown to Nairobi on Monday after he fell unconscious and collapsed over the weekend in Juba.

An eyewitness from the hospital told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that Malong’s health condition is deteriorating, saying his health condition has not changed over the past two days. He pointed out that Malong could not talk to people who visited him at the hospital.

For his part, Santo Domij, deputy spokesperson of the SPLA forces in Juba, said that Malong’s health condition was stable yesterday, claiming that he was discharged from the hospital.

He said yesterday. “He talked to people yesterday, he talked to me personally. He was discharged from the hospital, and he is now at home, so in the coming few days, hopefully he will return to Juba,” said Domij.
