South Sudan’s Army Chief of Staff Paul Malong has arrived in Juba after one week medical vacation in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

Gen. Malong was flown to Nairobi last week after he fell unconscious and collapsed in his house in Juba.

Speaking to reporters at Juba International Airport this afternoon, Gen. Malong said that he has been discharged from hospital in Nairobi.

Malong pointed out that he was suffering from malaria, diabetes and fatigue. “Thank God I was diagnosed and treated, and I have also been given a medication, that’s why I returned back to the country, “he said.

Paul Malong Awan was appointed by President Kiir as Chief of General Staff of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in April 2014. He is among the senior political and military figures proposed recently by the United States to be slapped with sanctions for hampering the peace process in South Sudan.
