A 3-day peace conference among pastoralist communities from Sudanese White Nile and South Sudanese Fashoda States has resolved to establish a common market at the shared border.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj the head of the Peace and Reconciliation Commission in Fashoda, Abdullah Kur said the suggested market will support trade between the neighboring Fashoda and White Nile states.
Kur said it was also agreed that the pastoralists will be required to pay taxes and conserve the environment in terms of preventing forest fires and excessive felling of trees in the border area.
According to Kur, the pastoralists decided to live in harmony by respecting the different customs and traditions and work together to resolve disputes.
The conference held in Wadakona ended on Wednesday and was attended by representatives of both communities.
