Pastoralists and police clash in Blue Nile

At least two people were injured and 9 others have been detained in Sennar, of the Blue Nile region, after clashes between pastoralists coming from South Sudan and the police in Sudan’s Sennar state, governemnt officials tell Radio Tamazuj.

A government official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the clashes occurred in the Karaki area near 50 kilometer from al Mazmum. In that region, pastoralists are calling on the government to give them land to live in the area, and say that the police opened fire to disperse them.

Meanwhile, residents of the area condemned the use of force by the police, claiming their sons that have been detained without charges to be released.

The Sennar state government had earlier promised to grant the pastoralists pieces of land for cultivation and accommodation but they were not granted the land.
