Pastoralist-Farmer peace on border at Sennar

Calm has returned to the South Sudanese border meeting Sudan’s Sennar state, following the resolution of recent frictions between farmers and pastoralists in Dali and al-Mazamoun over previous months.

Radio Tamazuj learned earlier that Sennar state authorities had intervened to contain friction between the South Sudanese farmers and Sudanese pastoralists.

Some sources from Sennar state added that the last agreement to demilitarise the border areas and resume South Sudan’s oil production helped to normalise the region.

Pastoralists, farmers and traders were considered as being amongst the ‘hardest-hit’ groups economically as the security situation halted cross-border travel and trade.

Cross-border conflict between the former two groups often stems from pastoralists being denied access to shared grazing and water for livestock.

Both nations formed a matrix earlier this month to implement a security agreement signed last September in order to create a demilitarised buffer zone.
