The army and opposition forces allied to Riek Machar’s SPLM-IO in South Sudan’s Wau State this week agreed to end hostilities and jointly implement the dictates of the September peace deal.
While addressing an opposition delegation on Tuesday, South Sudan People Defence Forces operations commander Major General Joshua Konyi advised the forces to shun politics and fully focus on implementing the revitalized peace agreement.
He assured the people of Western Bahr el Ghazal region that the two rival forces have made peace with each other.
"We want to tell all citizens that our brothers, whom we were fighting, are now in the town with us. So there is no more war," he added.
For his part, the SPLA-IO commander for Besselia region Brigadier General Peter Ngoli reiterated his forces readiness to implement the agreement, calling on civilians to feel free to move across the state.
In September last year, the South Sudanese arch-foes signed a peace agreement, aimed at ending the devastating civil war that has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions.
