Authorities in South Sudan’s Northern Liech state said they have agreed with the armed opposition faction (SPLM-IO) to open roads and allow the free movement of civilians in the state.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the state deputy governor, Laraka Machar said the decision was reached after the two parties conducted a three-week peace conference in the state.
"The government and opposition have agreed to work together to implement terms of the peace agreement, strengthen security and stability in the region and disseminate peace in the state," he said.
The move comes barely two weeks after the state government signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Riek Machar-led armed opposition group aimed at restoring peace and stability.
In September last year, the South Sudanese arch-foes signed a peace agreement, aimed at ending the devastating civil war that has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions.
