Partial lifting of night curfew in Wau

Authorities of Western Bahr el-Ghazal State have announced the partially lifting of the night curfew in Wau town after a long period nearly 4 months enforcement following the civil unrest in the town in which dozens of civilians were killed and others injured. Wau Town Mayor Michael Gaeba Ukel told Radio Tamazuj that the curfew was lifted after an assessment made by the security authorities in consultation with the state government, which concluded that the situation is stable in Wau. The lifting of the security measure is being phased in gradually from last Friday, when the curfew applied only from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. rather than from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., according to the mayor. “The state security committee made an assessment on the security situation in Wau, so they found that the security situation was stable, this is why they decided to lift the curfew to apply only from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.,” said the mayor.
