The Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) is expected to kickoff parliamentary business next Tuesday, 24 August, with President Salva Kiir addressing the nation through the august house.
According to the clerk to the TNLA, all members of the house are requested to report for registration at the venue, Freedom Hall, at 8:00 am on Tuesday.
During an interview with Radio Tamazuj over the weekend, the clerk to the TNLA, Makuac Makuac, said that the main agenda of the first session is the president’s address to the nation after which will be a normal parliamentary sitting.
“The main agenda of the inauguration is the President of the Republic of South Sudan going to address the nation through the parliament and then open the parliament officially and after that, we will have the normal setting of the parliament,” Makuac said.
He said that the issue of specialized committees not being formed is the work of the parties and has nothing to do with the clerk.
Meanwhile, the First Deputy Speaker of the TNLA, Oyet Nataniel, said that that there is still a challenge even if they are going to start the normal sittings because there are no specialized committees and some parties have not submitted the list of their nominees.
“What we still don’t have in place are specialized committee chairpersons and their deputies, we are also waiting for other parties to submit their nominees,” Oyet said.
