Pariang official complains of diseases caused by oil extraction

The Pariang County Commissioner in South Sudan’s Unity state said the county was experiencing shortages of doctors amid increasing miscarriages among pregnant women.

The Pariang County Commissioner in South Sudan’s Unity state said the county was experiencing shortages of doctors amid increasing miscarriages among pregnant women.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Friday, Monylang Manyiel raised concerns about the spread of miscarriages as well as infections believed to be caused by the oil production in the area.

“Citizens do not know the causes of this serious infection, but we are waiting for a report from the relevant authorities so that we can know exactly the type of the disease,” he said.

The top county official asserted that the security situation is calm, but complained about shortages of medical staff in the county which he said accommodates thousands of Sudanese refugees.
