A high-ranking traditional leader was killed by a gunman in South Sudan’s Twic State on Monday, according to authorities.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Twic State’s Deputy Governor Mario Ajak Akuei confirmed the incident and said the armed man shot and killed Paramount Chief Wundit Madut Riing in Ajak Kuac County on Monday.
The state official condemned the killing, saying the perpetuator will face justice. He urged the citizens to remain calm as police authorities carry out investigations into the incident.
The official further said they had dispatched security personnel to the crime scene where the paramount chief was killed.
“Before the culprit was arrested, we managed to deploy security forces to protect the area. We also talked to the family of the deceased to remain calm,” he said.
The deputy governor pointed out that the security situation returned to normal after the incident.
The deceased hailed from Molbang area in Ajak Kuac County.
