Panyikang County shelters hundreds displaced by recent clashes

Fresh clashes earlier this week displaced at least several hundred people in South Sudan's Upper Nile State, according to a local official.

Panyikang County Commissioner Gabriel Jago Nyawela told Radio Tamazuj that rebel forces coming from Unity State via Phom el Zeraf attacked the Midwar area on 31 March.

He claimed the clashes in the early morning hours resulted in two SPLA killed and five wounded while dozens of rebels were killed.

The official said that more than 1000 people then fled to Tunja, which is the county seat of Panyikang County.
