At least 16 health facilities across Panyijiar County in Unity State have reported a shortage of drugs.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj over the weekend, County Health Director Peter Yoak Yap confirmed the shortage that has been experienced for the past three months.

“All 16 health facilities have run out of drugs since August. We hope that UNICEF will replenish the supplies next week,” he said.

He added that the community was suffering from different diseases that could not be attended to without the drugs.

Yap said that UNICEF had, in an email communication, promised the medical supplies in the next few days.

Nyak PHCC staff member John Chuol said that all health facilities had run short of drugs for months.

He added that the operations of the health facilities had been impeded a great deal by the drugs shortage.

Chuol appealed to the national government to intervene to save the many lives that were in danger. He said most health facilities risked closing down if UNICEF supplies did not arrive soon.

Mary Nyaboth said that the Panyijiar community had been in a difficult situation without the medical supplies since August.

She said the community could face more deaths if UNICEF delayed the supplies further.
