Pagan to represent SPLM at African parties’ conference in Khartoum

South Sudan’s attendance has been confirmed at the African Political Parties Conference in Khartoum later this month, reported the Deputy Chair of its supreme committee, Issa Bushra, in a press statement.

Held on the 27-28 of April in the Sudanese capital, the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement will be represented by a large delegation, led by its Secretary General, Pagan Amum Ukec.

Invitations were extended to 53 African Countries and approximately 99 political parties have so far accepted and expressed their commitment to participate.

Only ruling political parties, leading opposition parties, and parties which have a number of representatives in national parliaments were invited to participate in the conference.

Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) is expected to participate alongside the Federal Umma Party alongside other Sudanese political parties, organizations and individuals yet to be agreed upon.

Bushra stated that the conference will discuss five key areas including economic and political challenges to Africa’s development and the role of political parties in promoting democracy, peace-building and the unity of the African continent. They will also look at how to more effectively benefit from the current technological and information revolution across the continent.
