Pagan Amum Okiech, former Secretary General of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and leader of the SPLM-Former Detainees faction (SPLM-FDs) has welcomed the IGAD decision to deploy a regional protection force to help quell the ongoing violence in South Sudan.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Amum stated the IGAD decision was a good move in the right direction to protect citizens, government institutions and relief agencies in the country.
Amum, however, said the regional bloc should also take measures against President Salva Kiir for demonstrating a lack of political will to restore peace and stability in South Sudan.
“The move by the region is in the right direction, but they should remember that that there was a lack of political will to implement the agreement even before the fighting in July ” said Amum.
” So this problem must be solved, and to me, there should be a government of technocrats because it obvious now that it will be impossible to implement the agreement under Salva Kiir’s leadership”he added.
Pagan Amum announced that they had formed an advocacy group seeking to bring South Sudan under the administration of the United Nations in order to force President Salva Kiir to resign.
