Pagan Amum warns of devastating tribal war in South Sudan

Pagan Amum Okiech, former Secretary General of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and leader of the SPLM Former Detainees (SPLM-FDs) warned against a full-scale tribal war in South Sudan.

Pagan Amum told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that South Sudan is now at a crossroads and that it could collapse and slide into chaos. He predicted fierce wars between Dinka militias led by President Salva Kiir and other tribal militias that declared war against the government recently.

Amum noted that the expected tribal war would lead to disintegration of South Sudan, while calling on President Kiir to step down and the other tribal groups to refrain from violence.

The opposition leader urged the international community to call for a conference to discuss the country’s political future and the formation of a neutral government.
