A total of 901 students have successfully completed their diplomas and degrees in various fields from the Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology.
55 female students were among those who graduated on Saturday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj after the graduation ceremony, Prof. Lado Wani Worja, the university’s deputy vice chancellor urged the graduates to be peace ambassadors and use their expertise to benefit communities.
He said among the graduates were students who completed their studies in 2012.
“We graduated 550 with diplomas and the rest with degrees. The graduates are from various colleges. 48 students are from College of Agriculture, 11 from Education, 36 from Environmental & Fisheries Sciences, 31 from Science & Technology, 34 from Law College and the rest from the College of Management Sciences,” he explained.
On his part, Vice President James Wani Igga warned the graduates against idleness, urging them to create employment opportunities for themselves.
Igga, who represented President Salva Kiir, said the national government will create a conducive environment for the graduates. “Your immediate problem will be unemployment. Don’t be tempted into gangs that raid cattle and a group called ‘Toronto,” Igga said.
Adia Bella Benjamin, a graduate, urged the parents to educate girls.
John Achiek Mabior, another graduate, appealed to the government to create opportunities needed for the students to practice skills acquired.
The university is one of the five public universities in South Sudan. It was elevated to university status in 2008.
