More than 700 displaced families are in dire humanitarian condition following attacks carried out by gunmen on Jalle Payam in Jonglei state, a lawmaker said.
Last week, at least 10 people were killed and thousands of cattle raided when an armed group attacked Akot cattle camp in Jalle area.
Kuol Bol, a Member of Parliament representing Athoc North Constituency in the state assembly told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that nearly 780 displaced families, mostly women and children, are in dire humanitarian condition in swampy areas in Jalle.
“I visited the area with the national MP Deng Tiel. We found that over 780 families were displaced mostly to swampy areas and some to Baidit area,” he said.
Kuol appealed to aid agencies operating in the state to intervene by providing food and medicines to the needy people as soon as possible, while urging Boma authorities and the national government in Juba to return the raided cattle.
