Over 70 heads of cattle were raided in an attack in Waat, a town in South Sudan’s Bieh State Saturday, an official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Sunday, the state information minister, Peter Nin Tut said the incident occurred when an armed group ambushed local herders grazing animals on the outskirts of the town.
“They raided more than 70 heads of cattle. The cattle keepers tried to recover those heads of cattle, but they did not manage,” he said.
The minister, however, said no one was hurt during Saturday’s attack, which he largely blamed on armed Murle youth from Boma State.
“The attackers are the Murle. They moved towards Boma State. We are calling upon authorities in Boma to recover those cows,” said Tut.
Boma State authorities could not easily be reached for comments.
