At least 68 households in Domadodo Boma in Mvolo County of Western Equatoria State have been left in the cold after their houses were destroyed by ravaging floods.
Bogori Payam Administrator Eliuda Ayot told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the floods caused by heavy rains affected Domadodo village for a week, forcing residents to leave their homes for safety.
The local official urged the government and aid agencies to intervene, saying the heavy floods destroyed crops planted by residents.
Wilson Dokada Kojo, the county Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) coordinator, said those displaced by floods are now depending on friends and relatives for survival. He said the displaced families urgently need shelter and non-food items.
Kojo also appealed to the government and aid agencies to intervene.
Last month, South Sudan’s Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) warned that thousands of people displaced by floods and conflict could face serious food shortages if not supported.
In May, experts warned that most parts of South Sudan will be hard hit by floods from June to September.
