Sudanese authorities on Sunday announced that they have collected more than 6,000 unlicensed guns and small arms in West Kordofan State, according to media reports.
Addressing hundreds of civilians in Al-Fula town on Sunday, Sudanese Vice President Hassabo Mohammed Abdurrahman this is the first round of the voluntary disarmament campaign.
He added that the decision to conduct the exercise stemmed from the need to enhance security within the country, as arms in the hands of civilians was the main security threat.
He explained that these guns are used to commit crimes such as killing, drugs and human trafficking. He warned that anyone who does not cooperate with the exercise will face the government.
