More than 50 lawmakers from the Central Equatoria State Translational Legislative Assembly have completed four-days training on conflict resolution in Juba.
The training was organized by the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative in partnership with the Central Equatoria State Ministry of Peace Building.
The training, which ended on Saturday, equipped the legislators with skills and knowledge to promote peace, good governance and conflict mitigation.
Speaking during the closing of the workshop on Saturday, the Coordinator for the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, Bush Buse, said the MPs were trained on peace promotion, good governance and conflict resolutions.
“The Members of Parliament have used this training to see where they have not been performing to the expectations and the things that they are going to do going forward, so that they perform their oversight role to help the people of Central Equatoria State,” Buse said.
The training, Buse added, had equipped the MPs with skills to address land grabbing and other security- related issues.
The Central Equatoria State Ministry of Peacebuilding Director General, James Wani, said the workshop awakened the lawmakers on their roles.
The Chairperson for the Specialized Committee for Peace and Security, Isaac Aloro Lomodi, said the skills they learned would help them perform better in parliament.
“This training has instilled valuable skills on how to harmonize coexistence and how Members of Parliament can resolve conflicts in Central Equatoria State and improve the governance,” said Lomodi.
He hailed the Whitaker and the State Ministry of Peace Building for organizing the workshop to train the Members of Parliament on conflict resolution and good governance.
