Local authorities in South Sudan’s Lol State say the recent floods have affected more than 5,000 people in Korok West County of South Sudan’s Lol State.

Korok West County commissioner Michael Mathok Wal told reporters on Sunday that crops have also been washed away and homes destroyed.

Mathok urged humanitarian aid organizations to provide aid to the affected people who need urgent aid.

“The rains has destroyed huge plantations of wheat and ground nuts. Even most of the homes have been washed away; the few that survived have been evacuated. We have 5,062 households that heave been affected. We are a farming community; most of our people are farmers,” he said.

He warned that the number of those displaced may increase if help does not come as soon as possible.
