The acting governor of South Sudan’s Gogrial State, Mayar Deng Mayar, said more than 5, 000 guns have been collected from civilians in the state.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, Deng applauded the disarmament exercise saying it has brought stability in the state.
He claimed that the locals are now moving freely without security concerns.
However, the local official said some criminals are still holding guns and that the security forces tasked to carry out the disarmament exercise are still searching for firearms in the state.
He urged all local residents to surrender their guns to the government.
