Over 400 displaced citizens return home after fighting in Ikotos County

More than 400 displaced people have returned to their houses in Ikotos County in the proposed Imatong State following last month fighting between government troops and opposition forces in the area, a local official said.

More than 400 displaced people have returned to their houses in Ikotos County in the proposed Imatong State following last month fighting between government troops and opposition forces in the area, a local official said.

Salvatore Abdallah, Ikotos County Commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that the security situation returned to normal and that the displaced people are returning back following clashes on 11 July in the area.

Abdalla claimed that six opposition soldiers were killed, while admitting that one government soldier was killed and two others wounded during the clashes.

The commissioner accused the opposition faction of burning citizen’s houses, besides the destruction of crops. The local official called on the government and humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently and provide aid assistance to the citizens in the area.
