Authorities in Jonglei State’s Uror County said more than 400 cows were stolen during a raid by a group of armed men in Pathai Payam on Friday.
Tang Chatim, the county commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred when the herdsmen were waylaid while returning from grazing fields and that the raiders were being pursued since Friday.
“Those raided 435 cows belong to 7 cattle camps in Pakam area of Pathai Payam. As we speak, our youth who pursued the attackers to GPAA did not return since Friday but during the incident, our youth were overpowered but no one was killed,” he said.
Gatbel Machar, the county police inspector, said police were not able to intervene immediately because the incident occurred outside the town but that the attackers are being pursued so that the cattle are retrieved.
Last week, the GPAA information minister Jay Adingora said he could not confirm or deny their youth involvement in attacks in Jonglei State due to poor communication and road network.
