Floods displaced communities from Panyijiar County of Unity State have arrived in parts of Lakes State and are appealing for humanitarian assistance.

Yirol East County Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Coordinator Gabriel Deng Majok told Radio Tamazuj that they have witnessed an influx of displaced communities in recent days. As of now, he says, they have registered more than 300 individuals who are in dire need of assistance.

"During the first arrival of the flood-displaced community, we registered 32 households. On the second day of arrival we registered 27, and today Thursday we have registered another 36 households, and it continues increasing every day. Now, the real number of households since they started to arrive in Yirol East County is 95 households and 321 individuals," said Deng.

The RRC coordinator says the displaced, mainly women, children, and the elderly are in Yirol East County and Amongpiny Payam of Lakes State and they lack shelter, food, and medicine.

"We are temporarily locating them in the government institutions. Some are located in the agriculture department because most of the schools in Yirol East County are busy with children coming to school for studies," he pointed out.

Deng said although Yirol East communities and authorities have supported them with some food items, the displaced need food, medical, and shelter.

The Paramount Chief of Panyijiar County in Unity State Tiap Chap Machiek appeals to humanitarian organizations to urgently provide food assistance to the displaced community.

"We have no food, mosquito nets, blankets, medicines, and plastic sheets for accommodation. We managed to walk on foot for three days to reach Yirol  East County very exhausted with children, the elderly, and women. Some people are still on the way coming. The whole area of Gonyiliel, Pacharjok, Panchak, and Pabung are underwater in Panyijiar County and we all left the area," he said.

He appeals to the host communities to welcome their brothers and sisters and support them in any way possible.

Chief Thiei also appealed to humanitarian organizations to urgently provide food assistance to the flood victims currently in Lakes State.
