About 320 internally displaced households from Abyei received assorted non-food items from the Japanese government through the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in Aweil town of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
The IDPs fled violence in Abyei last year in February and have been seeking refuge in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, the chairperson of the RRC in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Dut Majokdit confirmed that they distributed blankets, water tanks, and sleeping bags.
“This morning (Thursday) we paid a visit to Warchum, the designated area for the displaced persons due to the internal communal conflict between the people of Twic and Abyei communities. We gave them a few items that were donated by the government of Japan to the government of the Republic of South Sudan through the National Relief and Rehabilitation Commission and by this afternoon, we have distributed 320 blankets, water tanks, and sleeping pads,” said Majokdit.
He further appealed to humanitarian organizations in the country to support displaced communities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
“I also urge the government of national unity, President Salva Kiir, First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, and the entire government to bring peace between the two sisterly communities so that these displaced return back to their areas of origin,” he added.
