Over 30 youth attend peace mobilization training in Torit

Over 30 youth have completed a five-day long training on peace mobilization in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State.

Over 30 youth have completed a five-day long training on peace mobilization in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State.

The youth are expected to spearhead peace activities in various communities.

The Resource Centre for Civil Leadership (RECONCILE) International organized the training which aimed at empowering youth with basic skills and knowledge on how to resolve conflicts in their communities.

Speaking during the training in Torit town on Tuesday, Moses Geri, the program manager for RECONCILE urged the youth to be agents of peace.

“They [youth] will go to their communities and become peace agents. If there are conflicts or misunderstandings among the communities, they are the people who are able to sit down with these communities, talk to these communities and tell them the right things to do.  We do know conflicts are everywhere,” he explained.

Geri urged the population to welcome the trained youth, saying they will be beneficial to communities during peace campaigns.

Hillary Lokudu Mohamed, Torit municipality’s chief executive officer, urged the participants to be eye-openers should any conflict erupt.

“You are an eye-opener to people on the ground. If there is a conflict between husband and wife, don’t fear to intervene,” he said.

He added, “It is your role to tell people to put the past behind them and open a new page. When you keep everything in your heart, it will continue and bring the culture of revenge. We should forgive”.

RECONCILE International was established in 2003 as an affiliate church organization of the New Sudan Council of Churches (SCC).
