Over 30 families flee clashes in greater Pibor area

Inter-communal fighting in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area has forced more than 30 families to flee to Bor County of Jonglei State, an official disclosed.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the Secretary General of Jonglei State government, Mabior Atem said the people have been arriving in Anyidi area since Wednesday.

“The displaced are from the greater Pibor. They are saying they are seeking safety. So, we have already received about 30 households and 59 individuals,” he said.

The state official appealed for humanitarian intervention, saying the displaced families are lacking food and shelter.

On Tuesday, fighting erupted between the Murle and Lou Nuer communities in the Nanaam and Bith-Bith areas of the greater Pibor.

Details of the clashes are still scanty.

The communities of greater Jonglei state have for long been wrangling leading to cattle raids and child abductions.
