Officials of the defunct Aloor County in Lakes state say more than 30,000 people lack food, medicines, and shelter as floods continue to destroy homes and livelihoods across the country.
Aloor County commissioner Moses Maker told Radio Tamazuj that the people are staring at a humanitarian crisis if urgent aid does not reach them.
He said roads leading to Mapel and Wulu from Rumbek Centre have been rendered impassable leading to skyrocketing of commodity prices.
“After heavy rains, the people of Rumbek North are suffering from multiple problems including health, food, and access to the main town center. There are more than 30,000 people in the greater Rumbek North especially the defunct Aloor County,” Moses said.
The official said the county has experienced peaceful coexistence of feuding communities while applauding peace efforts to reconcile the communities of Warrap and Lakes states.
