Officials in South Sudan’s Yei River State say more than 30,000 internally displaced persons in Kajo-Keji County are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
The state Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Chairperson Peter Butili Farrajallah, the vulnerable mostly women, children and the elderly are trapped in various villages of Liwolo and Nyepo Counties are surviving on wild fruits and medicines.
“There are currently 31,335 IDPs scattered in areas like Logo, Kiriwa, Ajio and other areas. They don’t have food, medicines, shelter, clothes and salt,” he said.
Butili said he established the numbers after meeting leaders and the local officials when he visited Kajo-Keji town last week.
“I am appealing to the humanitarian partners to rescue the desperate population stuck in the bushes of Kajo-Keji County” he added.
Butili said the state government is handicapped without resources to deliver food, shelter and medical assistance to the people.
