More than 21 displaced families returned to Duk county in South Sudan’s Jonglei state recently, according the commissioner of Duk county.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Commissioner Michael Wuor Malual said many people who fled the war in the past two years are returning to their homes.

He added that more than 400 families returned to the area recently from Uganda, Kenya, and some parts of South Sudan.

“More than 400 families have returned to the county and others are returning every day. If you go to Duk county today you will find that all places that were deserted are now fully with people,” Wuor said.

Wuor said the only challenge is the transportation of the displaced people, saying the displaced people are having problems to return to their homes due to the high cost of transportation.

“The transportation is a problem now and the government is unable to transport the displaced people to their places. We have asked some NGOs to help us is this issue but they told us they don’t have enough budget for repatriation,” said Wuor.

He said the local authorities looked for other ways to transport the displaced people but did not succeed.
