Over 20 gang members arrested in Bor town

The police in Bor town of Jonglei State have last week arrested 28 suspected gangsters for terrorizing parts of the town.

The police in Bor town of Jonglei State have last week arrested 28 suspected gangsters for terrorizing parts of the town.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Brigadier Ajak Ayuen Mach, the head of the joint operation unit, said the suspects were arrested in the ongoing crackdown amid rising gang violence in parts of the town. 

“We started this crackdown campaign six days ago. So far, we have 28 gang members in our detention. As a military officer, I was asked to head the joint operation because crimes are on the rise in Bor,” he said. 

Ajak urged the local population to cooperate with them in the ongoing crackdown, and that the exercise will continue until safety is assured in the town. 

One Bor resident Elijah Deng welcomed the exercise, saying the town has been calm since the campaign started a week ago.     
 
Last week, police in the state capital, Bor town announced that a crackdown has been launched to combat rising gang violence there.
