Authorities in Alal County of the disputed Abyei Administrative Area said more than 20 cows were raided by armed youth last Sunday.

The area's county commissioner Akoi Koon told Radio Tamazuj that the raiders are suspected to be from neighboring Mayom County of Unity State.

Koon also said no one was injured and some cattle were recovered.

"What happened was that some armed youth attacked Awuolnhom village in Alal County and raided 24 cows at 8:30 Pm and they (raiders) were shooting randomly but they didn't shoot anybody," he explained.

He added, "When I received the information, I immediately informed some youth to pursue them and in the process in the morning our youth managed to recover 15 cows plus one cow they raiders has shot dead and one cow which escaped with her calf that makes the total to be 18. So, the missing cows were six in number."

However, Mayom County Commissioner James Chuol Gatluak said he had not received any such information.
