About 2,022 returnees arrived in the Khorfulus area of Pigi County, Jonglei State since the beginning of the month amidst a lack of access to basic services.

Nyok Malual Mayik, the Pigi County commissioner, decried the humanitarian situation and called on the aid agencies to provide them food and shelter.

“The returnees about 350 households arrived on June 3 and 4. We notified the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC). But there has been no humanitarian intervention for weeks now,” he stressed.

Thab Mathiang Thon, a youth leader there, appealed to the government and aid agencies in the country to provide the returnees food and shelter so that they cultivate for themselves as they resettle.

The returnees told Radio Tamazuj that they have not received any food aid or shelter since they arrived early this month.

“We came from Dentima displaced persons' camp in Melut County of Upper Nile State. We arrived in Khorfulus with nothing at hand. Now as rains begin, we need shelter," Abuk Daniel, a returnee said.
