More than 2,000 displaced people are still living inside the Catholic Church in Raja town in the proposed Lol State.

More than 2,000 displaced people are still living inside the Catholic Church in Raja town in the proposed Lol State.

A large number of citizens fled to the church after clashes erupted between government forces and insurgents in Raja town in June.

Speak to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, several displaced families reported dire health conditions among children amid absence of organizations operating in the area. According to the conflict-affected people death cases were reported among the children at the church.

The complaining citizens said they were also experiencing deteriorating humanitarian conditions due to shortages of essential goods in Raja town. They appointed out that some families resorted to eat leaves of trees to survive.

Meanwhile, local residents who are living in the town said that most of the shops were looted during and after fighting, causing soaring prices of commodities at the market.

They added that one kilo of sugar cots 160 SSP, and a heap of onions is selling at 5 SSP, while a small package of salt has increased from 10 SSP to 15 SSP.
