Over 15 people killed in Tonj East feud between families

At least 15 people were killed over the weekend in Tonj East of Warrap State in inter-clan clashes following the abduction of a woman, according to the State Information Minister.

Paul Dhel told Radio Tamazuj Monday that clashes turned bloody when the fight between the two families shifted from using sticks to guns over elopement of a woman by one of the young men at Makuac village.

He asserted that the clashes continued until Monday. Dhel further said that a security committee was sent to contain the problem and tally casualties.

The state official predicted the figure of the dead and wounded could reach 15 people. He called upon the two feuding clans to calm down so that legal procedures are followed.

The Tonj East County also cited the same version of the story narrated earlier by the information minister. Commissioner Madol Chol told Radio Tamazuj that the clashes started with sticks over the weekend and then quickly shifted to guns.

He said that casualties were not yet known, while blaming the family of the man for exacerbating the problem.

Local sources speaking to Radio Tamazuj indicated that the number of casualties is more than 15 people.
