Over 110 firearms collected from Rumbek citizens

Authorities in South Sudan's Western Lakes State have collected over 110 firearms from local residents in Rumbek town last week.

Dut Makuet, information minister in the proposed Western Lakes State, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the disarmament exercise was carried out last week to make sure Rumbek town is free of arms.

“We have carried out a search operation in the town so that we collect guns from the hands of the citizens in the town," said Makuet.

The government official revealed that that they were able to collect over 110 firearms in the town, saying the inspection will be conducted across the state during the dry season.

“We will continue with the disarmament at any time, now we have found about 110 guns including pistols and grenades,” he explained.
