Over 1 million SSP stolen from Episcopal Church in Bor

An amount of 1.3 million SSP was stolen from St. Andrew’s Cathedral of the Episcopal Church in Jonglei State capital, Bor on Tuesday, an Episcopal Church official said.

Phillip Maluak, the Information Secretary of the Bishop of the Jonglei Internal Province, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that an unidentified group broke into the church premises and stole money from the office of the bishop.

“The money was kept in the bishop’s office after its withdrawal from the bank. It was meant for construction of the new diocese of Bor cathedral. We do not know the motive of the incident,” he said.

Separately, Majak Daniel Tuor, the state police spokesperson confirmed the theft, saying an investigation is underway.

“We are aware of the incident. A case was opened with us on Wednesday morning and now investigations are ongoing to find those behind the incident,” he added.
