Members from the organized forces in Torit have concluded a 3-day training on basic first aid skills organized by the South Sudan Red Cross.

Janet Lakony Karlo, South Sudan Red Cross director in Torit told Radio Tamazuj that the training aimed at imparting basic skills to the police, traffic police and fire brigade officers for emergency situations.

“We selected this team because these are normally the people that are in the front line during emergencies,” she said.

An officer at Torit Police Central division Captain Karlo Iyabo Sidoro, says he has gained skills which will help him deal with injuries and accidents common in his line of duty.

An officer at the Fire Brigade department George Andrea appeals for more training to all forces across the state.

“This training is so essential and every soldier is supposed to get this type of training. We should not just wait for Red Cross, even we ourselves or any civilians have to acquire this training to help our communities,’’ he said.

He further urged South Sudan Red Cross Torit branch to continue conducting refresher courses to its first aid volunteers.
