Opposition groups meet today in Nairobi to discuss S Sudan political process

Lam Akol Ajawin, an influential opposition leader who resigned from Kiir's administration earlier this month has invited all South Sudanese opposition factions to attend a meeting in Nairobi today, a senior SPLM-IO official said.

Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, deputy head of the SPLM-IO information committee, told Radio Tamazuj that all opposition figures would attend a meeting called for by opposition leader Lam Akol today in Nairobi. He added that the opposition groups would discuss the ongoing political developments in South Sudan.

“We have received an invitation from Dr. Lam Akol who invited all opposition political spectrums to attend a meeting in Nairobi on 18 August. So we have accepted to attend the meeting and the outcome will be made public” said Manawa.

Manawa pointed out that the invitation was also extended to key opposition groups including the SPLM-Former Detainees (SPLM-FDs), and the Federal Democratic Party (FDP) among others.

The meeting comes barely one day after South Sudan’s new First Vice President Taban Deng Gai, who replaced his boss Riek Machar in a controversial procedure visited Kenya.
