A prominent political party has downplayed the significance of a recent opposition meeting held in Nairobi, claiming it excluded Dinka opposition politicians and lacked a clear agenda.

The opposition meeting that brought SPLM-IO, Federal Democratic Party, and supporters of the former governor Bakasoro, and was hosted by Dr. Lam Akol.

The People’s Liberal Party Secretary General Isaac Natalia Louise rejected the opposition meeting on Thursday, accusing the meeting of sectarianism because the group did not invite Dinka opposition politicians.

“The agenda was not clear to most of the opposition and therefore the party blocked the chairman from traveling to attend,” Natalia said.

He disagreed with Akol organizing the meeting, saying that he had already resigned from politics. Natalia said that the four parties “had a hidden agenda and they are not really democratic opposition parties but breakaway parties and some of their members are still in government.

The party secretary general said that his party is willing to engage a wider opposition front that is inclusive and has a clear agenda, regardless of tribe.
