Opposition governor of Wau condemns targeted killings, urges UN to intervene

Dominic Ukelo, the rebel-appointed governor of Wau State has condemned in the strongest terms possible the recent violence in Wau town, where dozens of innocent civilians were killed based on their ethnicity.

“The government of Wau Federal State in Opposition would like to condemn in strongest term possible the barbaric house-to-house killings of innocent civilians in Wau city,” said Ukelo in a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday.

The SPLM-IO official urged the UN Security Council to call for urgent meeting to discuss and to condemn the recent ethnic killings by government troops in Wau.

He also urged the international community to intervene and save the lives of innocent civilians in Wau town.

Ukelo called upon all the people of Western Bahr al-Ghazal to come together, unite and support their fellow citizens in Wau State.
