Two hotels in the capital Juba where opposition delegates are residing have cut room services over unpaid bills, an opposition official said.
The cost of accommodation and room services are supposed to be paid by the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) tasked with the oversight and coordination of the implementation of the activities of the pre-transitional period.
Lam Paul Gabiel, deputy spokesman for Machar's SPLA-IO group, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the committee's failure to pay bills had prompted Juba Grand and Landmark Hotels to stop room services.
He pointed out that the peace delegates were briefly locked out of hotel rooms on Tuesday because of unpaid accommodation bills.
“The management of Juba Grand locked us out of hotel rooms on Tuesday. But when we talked to the NPTC, they allowed us to stay in the hotel,” he explained.
“Juba Grand had stopped the provision of food and water since the last five days. Landmark Hotel also cut room services on Wednesday, “he said.
Lam called upon the body tasked with the oversight of the implementation of the activities of the pre-transitional period to resolve the issue.
It remains exactly unclear how much money is owed.
Managers of Juba Grand and Landmark Hotels did not release a statement. Members of the oversight committee could not immediately be reached for comment.
