Opinions of SRF leaders differ on Sudan’s national dialogue

The rebel alliance of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) denied reports that it had accepted the National Dialogue called for by president Omer al-Bashir.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Sunday, SRF spokesman El Tom Hajjo said they were the initiators of the National Dialogue according the terms of the recent agreement.

This denial comes following an announcement made by Thabo Mbeki on his Facebook account that delegations of Sudan's National Dialogue committee and the Sudan Revolutionary Front signed an agreement on the National Dialogue and constitutional process on Thursday in Addis Ababa.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, Justice and Equality Movement leader Jibril Ibrahim also said that they reject the current formation of the National Dialogue. He further said that formation of a mechanism for the National Dialogue should have come through a general conference for all stakeholders in Sudan.

Separately, two delegations of the Sudanese National Consensus Forces and Sudanese Revolutionary Front held a meeting in Addis Ababa yesterday.

Azhari Ali Mohamed, a breakaway politician from Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), said that said they came to Addis Ababa in order to consult on the latest developments on the Principles of the National Dialogue.

He added that the Sudanese Communist Party Sadiq Yusuf was stopped at the Khartoum Airport by security agents last week.
