The Minority Leader in South Sudan’s parliament Onyoti Adigo says better working relationships between President Salva Kiir and his first deputy Taban Deng Gai does not mean smooth implementation of the peace agreement.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Onyoti stated last August’s peace deal needs the presence of opposition leader Riek Machar in Juba.
He further said any military rivalry between Riek Machar and Taban Deng will cause instability in South Sudan. Onyoti called on President Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar to initiate a dialogue in order to implement the peace agreement.
The minority leader also emphasised the need for dialogue and reconciliation between the new First Vice President Taban Deng and former vice president Riek Machar.
Separately, Onyoti Adigo said that the new transitional parliament is incomplete because representatives of other political parties and SPLM-Former Detainees (SPLM-FDs) have not yet been appointed by President Kiir.
He pointed out that the government’s position on the deployment of 4,000 regional troops in Juba is yet to be presented to the parliament.
