Only 2,000 of 14,000 primary candidates start exams in Yei due to insecurity

More than 2000 primary school candidates in Yei River State have started sitting for their final South Sudan primary leaving examinations on Monday despite an increasing wave of insecurity in the area.

More than 2000 primary school candidates in Yei River State have started sitting for their final South Sudan primary leaving examinations on Monday despite an increasing wave of insecurity in the area.

State Director General for Education Amule Felix told Radio Tamazuj that there are 848 candidates in Yei and 1,882 candidates in Kajo-Keji. There are 1,151 girls out of the total number of the candidates sitting for this year.

Amule says the education ministry had expected more than 14,000 candidates to sit for this year’s examinations but majority of them fled due to insecurity that has hit the state.

There are no candidates sitting for this year’s examinations in Morobo and Lainya counties due to the insecurity and displacements.

Amule says there are also nearly 5,000 South Sudanese candidates sitting the same examinations in the various camps of northern Uganda.

He said that on Monday they begun with Christian religious education paper and will conclude with sSocial studies on Friday this week.

“In Yei River state, we have 27 centres both in Kajo-Keji and Yei River counties… In the camp they may reach around 5,000 candidates and they began with Rreligious education and the exams will run for five days which will end with a social studies. Therefore, I want to wish them success because education is key for transformation in the society”

Amule thanked the national ministry of education for extending the examinations to the South Sudanese candidates in Northern Uganda.
