One trader killed in knife fight in Kwajok

A trader in Kwajok town killed a fellow trader in a knife fight in the market on Tuesday. The two men from Darfur were in a dispute over money, according to a relative of the victim.

The dead was identified as Adam Sadiq Ismail and the suspected killer is nicknamed ‘Obama’ by his fellow traders. The latter has been taken to Gogrial for treatment as his condition is very bad while the family of the late is transporting his body to Nyala for burial.

A brother of the late said that he was demanding 70,000 South Sudanese pounds from the man who killed him. “My brother asked Obama for his money that he had used to buy goods from Sudan but he failed to pay. The killer immediately rushed home and brought a knife that he used for killing the late,” said the brother.

He noted that the two traders had earlier brought their case before other traders who had settled the dispute, but afterwards Obama allegedly refused to settle the matter.

An elder in the town explained that Obama took his knife and knifed the late twice in his body killing him immediately due to bleeding. He claimed that then the killer pushed the knife into himself.

After the incident a local police officer rushed to the scene and asked for the body of the late and the suspected killer to be taken to the hospital.

Reportedly, the suspected killer had been imprisoned before over the same dispute that led to the killing today. His real identity is not yet clear because he was widely known only as ‘Obama.’
